Hello to you all, parents, carers and students
I trust that you are all keeping well.
I am aware that following this evenings Government briefing you may have questions about school re-opening. I hope to clarify with reference to a Government press release issued tonight, “Currently the Isle of Man Government plans to begin lifting some restrictions on Tuesday 6 April and it is proposed that all schools and University College Isle of Man (UCM) will reopen for teaching staff on Monday 12 April - as long as Public Health agree it is safe.” In light of the recent pattern of cases, this means that certain restrictions are likely to be in place when students return and after being excluded from school for the majority of lockdown, site, support and teaching staff will need to prepare the building and resources for the return of face to face teaching. This is likely to happen on 12th April so students are unlikely to return on the 12th April.

The Government press release continues, ”A phased return for children could begin on Tuesday 13 April starting with vulnerable children and those of essential workers. Priority will also be given to young people in Years 11 and 13 who need to complete important practical work after all summer exams were cancelled earlier this month.” This is the level of detail that we will only be able to confirm following further information from Government on Tuesday. This means that we should be able to confirm details on Wednesday or Thursday next week. As Dr Alex Allinson MHK, Minister for Education, Sport and Culture, said: ‘I know it has been a difficult time and I thank everyone for their patience. The health and wellbeing of pupils and staff is our main priority and any decision to welcome them back will follow the latest health data and clinical advice.’

We will work with the Government to to get the latest updates and therefore develop clear strategies to safeguard returning pupils and staff. Remote learning will continue as fully as possible depending upon the balance of face to face teaching.

I thank you for bearing with us and ask again that you trust us to get the most up to date information and plans to you as soon as we possibly can.
