This January we launched a new ‘cultural’ trip to Madrid for 5 nights staying in a large house opposite the world famous Prado Art Gallery. It comprised of 8 sixth formers & 3 year 11's. The aim was to take in the sights that are on the new A-Level specification as well as practising spoken Spanish in real life situations. Day 1- We took in all the sights of central Madrid, whilst Day 2 was spent in the old picturesque medieval city of Toledo, an hour’s drive south of Madrid. Day 3 was spent again in the old beguiling city called Segovia, an hour & a half drive north of Madrid. On the way back we visited the macabre, but impressive, Valley of the Fallen in the granite snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Guadarrama where General Franco’s tomb is located. Last but not least we spent the final day at leisure in Madrid. It was an amazing trip & the students benefited enormously by speaking lots of Spanish and visiting sights which have featured in last year’s A-Level Paper. Next year we plan to either run a different trip based in Seville, taking in Córdoba & possibly Cádiz or to repeat the Madrid experience and with the addition of taking in the city of Ávila and possibly the old university town of Alcalá de Henares, NE of Madrid. If you are interested please see Mr Judd as places are extremely limited due to the apartment or house we rent.
If you are younger (Years 7 – 10 inclusive) and would like to improve your Spanish we also run the highly popular Exchange to Murcia in SE Spain which this year will take place from the 4th – 11th November. Staying with a Spanish family you are immersed in the Spanish language & culture. We do lots of fun activities whilst we are there like snorkelling, visiting an offshore island and swimming in beautiful plunge pools in the desert. There are still 3 – 4 places left for this so if you are interested please see Mr Judd.
