Year 7 students have been running mock elections imagining that they are an Anglo-Saxon Witan electing a new king in 1066. In the lessons they combined issues that might concerned people in 1066, with issues that concern year 7s in 2019. Students produce campaign materials such as rosettes, posters and speeches while some groups created their own twitter and Instagram accounts. There were some excellent presentations with issues such as climate change, single use plastic, public health, trade and a controversial policy of no homework and school uniform! In the interests of fairness and democracy there was a secret ballot. In the 7V election William of Normandy won and in the 7S election Edgar the Atheling won. Do you know who won in reality in 1066?
