We are very much looking forward to welcoming students from our primary schools, Andreas, Jurby, Sulby, Ballaugh, Dhoon, Laxey and Bunscoill Rhumsaa for this year’s Year 6 Open Evening on Tuesday 7th February. Students and their families will have the opportunity to see school in action and to visit each study area to experience a range of activities put on by students and staff by way of an introduction to learning at Ramsey Grammar School. I look forward to meeting all of you when I give my introduction to the school on that evening in the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre. You will be able to see for yourselves our commitment to achieving Excellence for all - the very best outcomes for all of our young people, regardless of their starting point.
Do not miss the chance to see out new Timeline, linking up the English and History Departments in a celebration of historical and literary events ranging from the death of Tutankhamun in 1323 BCE to the 70th Anniversary of RGS becoming the first comprehensive in 2016, with 138 other events in between. The literary aspect of the Timeline features great works and events of the world in literature. Staff intend to use this as an interactive and dynamic educational resource. Head of English, Mrs Owen and Head of History, Mr Wilkinson are hoping that other departments will join in with this initiative to celebrate the history of their subjects at key points in time.
The Timeline makes a fitting contribution to the celebration of the school’s existence as a comprehensive. We look forward to recording what the future has in store for us as we extend the Timeline beyond the History Department.
We were delighted with the response of students and staff alike to the Microsoft Office Specialist Qualification launch in school recently. Year 9 students, as well as nearly 50 staff, will be working towards this universally recognised qualification which will provide an excellent addition to everyone’s Curriculum Vitae (CV).
Preparations are continuing for the arrival of Live Screening at Ramsey Grammar School; keep a look out for further information on the shows that soon to be streamed live to the Sixth Form Lecture Theatre base of the Ramsey Theatre Experience.
Congratulations to “Heaven Knows I’m Quizerable Now”, the team that unseated the Legends from their place on the leader board in winning the annual RGSA Community Quiz. Congratulations on a magnificent performance and many thanks to the RGSA, Chrissy, our Catering Manager and her team for the food, Barry, our Site Manager and everyone who made this yet again an enjoyable and successful evening.
Finally, we welcome Andrea Needham as the new Parent Governor to the Governing Body at RGS. Mrs Needham is the mother of a Year 11 student and as an ex-student, has a long association with the school. The Governing Body and I look forward to working with Mrs Needham on behalf of our young people and the Northern Community.
